Day 1 - Jan 19 Arrival in Mexico City. Overnight Galeria Plaza Reforma Hotel. Mexico City is an amazing place with ancient sites, museums and shopping. It has had thousands of UFO sightings, discoveries made under its streets and still has an Aztec observatory in the subway station! Day 2 - Jan 20 Visit anthropological museum and the historical Templo Mayor. We visit the anthropological museum where will see several Olmec heads, the ‘Aztec’ Sun stone and original Aztec codices. We continue on to visit the historic center of Mexico City, the Zocalo. Here we see the excavations of the Templo Mayor, which was the heart of the Aztec capital Tenochtitlan. When the Spanish took over they built a massive cathedral at the site, now one of the oldest and largest in the Americas. Overnight at the Galeria Plaza Reforma Hotel.
Day 3 - Jan 21 All Day Trip to the Pyramids of Teotihuacan. Teotihuacan boasts the spectacular pyramids of the Sun and Moon plus the fantastic pyramid of the ‘Plumed Serpent’ or Quetzalcoatl. We climb the pyramids and explore this mysterious site whose builders are unknown. Overnight at the Galeria Plaza Reforma Hotel .
Day 4 - Jan 22 Fly to Veracruz. Veracruz is the port city where the Spanish conquistadors first landed in Mexico and is today a charming colonial city. Overnight at the Gran Hotel Diligencias, Veracruz.
Day 5 - Jan 23 Drive to Xalapa. Xalapa is a fascinating town with the best museum of Olmec artifacts in all of Mexico. Some of the megalithic statues in the museum are very strange. Return to Veracruz and overnight at the Gran Hotel Diligencias, Veracruz.
Day 6 - Jan 24 Drive to Villahermosa. We leave Veracruz and drive to the Olmec town of Santiago Tuxtla, housing the largest of the colossal heads, and an interesting museum. Continue on to Villahermosa, the central Olmec area near the site of the Olmec capital of La Venta. Overnight at Hilton Hotel Villahermosa.
Day 7 - Jan 25 Villahermosa. We first visit the Olmec Park, famous for its colossal 20-ton basalt heads, and then drive to the nearby Mayan/Olmec port of Comacalco, famous for its pyramids and inscriptions. Overnight at Hilton Hotel Villahermosa.
Day 8 - Jan 26 Villahermosa to Palenque. We drive to Palenque in the morning and check into our hotel. Then we have an afternoon trip to the mysterious Mayan city of Palenque, famous for the sarcophagus lid or “rocket man” Lord Pacal of Ancient Aliens fame. Day 9 - Jan 27 Palenque. We have a morning trip to the ruined Mayan city of Palenque, famous for the sarcophagus lid or “rocket man” Lord Pacal of Ancient Aliens fame. Afternoon trip to the town square. Overnight Chan Kah Ruinas Palenque.
Day 10 - Jan 28 Drive back to Villahermosa. We have a leisurely morning at the Chan Kah Ruinas hotels and then drive back to Villahermosa. Free afternoon to shop in the markets of Villahermosa. Overnight at Hilton Hotel Villahermosa.
Day 11 - Jan 29 Go to Villahermosa Airport. Fly home with a morning flight to Houston. Connect with flights to your city. The tour ends!
