Join the World Explorers Club on a 14-day expedition to the mysterious ancient ruins of the Andes. We depart Wednesday, Feb. 13, and fly to Lima, the capital of Peru. After two nights in the upscale Miraflores area of Lima, we fly to Cuzco, the ancient Inca Capital. We take the train to Machu Picchu and visit the massive ruins of Ollantaytambo. We return to Cuzco and then drive by bus to the town of Espinar in the southernmost part of Cuzco Province. From Espinar we then drive to Lake Titicaca and the town of Puno. From Puno we fly south to Lima for one night and then fly back to the USA. It’s a great 14-day trip with David Hatcher Childress and the World Explorers Club!
Day 1: Fly from any major destination in the USA to Lima. We arrive late and transfer direct to the hotel. Overnight at the La Paz Apart Hotel, Avenida La Paz 679, Miraflores. http://www.lapazaparthotel.com
Day 2: Meeting of the whole group at the breakfast room. Visit to the Archeology Museum. Overnight at the La Paz Apart Hotel.
Day 3: We fly to wonderful Cuzco in the Andes Mountains of Peru. After checking into our hotel we take a short walking tour of megalithic Cuzco, visiting the important Qoriqancha Sun Temple once covered in gold leaf. Day 4: We tour the megalithic walls of Sacsayhuaman on the hills above Cuzco. Afternoon free. You will have the Cuzco Pass, which allows you entrance to several local attractions like the Regional Museum on the square and an art display. Overnight at the Tierra Viva Cusco Plaza.
Day 5: We go by bus to Ollantaytambo in the Sacred Valley. Visit the megalithic construction at the Sun Fortress on a cliff. Overnight at the El Albergue Ollantaytambo, located at the railway station. http://www.elalbergue.com
Day 6: All day trip via train and bus to Machu Picchu. Return via train to Ollantaytambo. Overnight at the El Albergue Ollantaytambo.
Day 7: We return by bus to Cuzco, stopping at the town of Pisac in the Sacred Valley of the Incas for lunch. We arrive back in Cuzco in the late afternoon. Evening free. Overnight at the Tierra Viva Cusco Plaza.
Day 8: Free day for using your Cuzco Pass and visiting museums, taking photographs or shopping—Cuzco has some of the best shopping in Peru! Overnight at the Tierra Viva Cusco Plaza.
Day 9: We depart by bus for the town of Espinar, south of Cuzco. We drive through mountain country that is rarely seen by the tourist. In the afternoon we arrive at Espinar and check in to our hotel, the Sierra Alta Espinar on the main plaza of this quaint colonial town.
Day 10: We visit the megalithic sites around Espinar including the strange megalithic mushroom towers. Overnight at the Hotel Sierra Alta Espinar.
Day 11: We drive to Lake Titicaca and the lakeside town of Puno. Overnight at the Libertador Hotel Lago Titicaca, Puno.
Day 12: All day trip to the megalithic ruins of Sillustani. Overnight at the Libertador Hotel Lago Titicaca, Puno.
Day 13: We go to the Puno Airport at nearby Juliaca and fly to Lima. Overnight at the La Paz Apart Hotel.
Day 14: We depart for the Lima airport in the afternoon for an overnight flight back to the USA, landing on Day 15 which is Wednesday February 27.
Note: All flights, bus and train trips inside Peru are included. Breakfasts are included with the room in Peru, so these meals, as offered by the hotel, are included. All other meals and drinks are excluded. Snacks are served on domestic flights and the train to Machu Picchu.
